Yin Yoga

The world is waking up to yoga and its benefits. Many of us celebrate the power of yoga through our practice but to really understand how it can enrich each of our lives, we must continually heighten our understanding with experience, awareness and self inquiry.

I create a nurturing and caring environment for my clients. When you work with me, we build your practice from connecting mind and body, understanding physical and emotional strengths and living life fully every day.

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a very different practice from the many types of yoga popular in the western world. Yin gets its name from the traditional understanding of Yin and Yang. Yin represents feminine, stable, unmoving qualities and Yang represents masculine, moving, active qualities. All is relative with Yin/Yang; each holds the possibility for the other, and both are important for a rich and purposeful life.

Most forms of yoga practiced in the western world emphasize yang, focusing on strength and active stretch which is very important. Yin yoga emphasizes letting go of muscle tension in order to target the deeper connective tissues. While yang yoga practices as well as other active sports trainings focus on muscle activity, Yin is active in awareness. While you do “work” at your edge to develop healthier joints and more subtle awareness, this is the work that develops a deep knowledge of your own body and mind. Each pose releases connective tissue deep in the joints (ligaments and bone) with breath, long passive stretching, distinguishing different sensations, and works towards meditative states through directing awareness.

Yin helps bring balance to our western yang way of life. Each pose is held for approximately 5 minutes, allowing the muscle’s tendency to react, hold, and resist to release, making it possible for the joints, ligaments and bone to be exercised in a safe way. Each part of our body needs to be touched, stimulated and noticed to stay healthy and strong. Although Yin is often thought of as relaxation, it actually is very challenging method bringing each of us to an edge beyond our surface layer. Where most people work only with the surface layers of the body (muscle), Yin is directed deep into the body and works safely on the areas that are most too-often ignored (ligaments, joints). Your body learns to lets go of tension we rarely notice, while still working at your edge resulting in a healthy range of motion, inner focus, healing, and balance.

Athletes, Yogis and Weekend Warriors

Holifit, Beth Iglecia, Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Park City, Salt Lake CityBy passively stretching the connective tissue around the joints, Yin yoga helps to create an increased range of motion, stability, and strength in the ligaments. Athletes, weekend warriors and yes, yogis too, often live with instabilities, injuries, and limitations they are not even aware of. Yin yoga offers a safe and healthy way to discover and work with these areas, helping you do more with greater ease, calm, and comfort.

Private and Semi-Private Yoga

Yoga is a method and process to increase body and inner awareness, strength, flexibility, alignment, posture, balance, calmness, energy and focus. At its most basic level, it is one of many tools that individuals can use to reduce stress and enhance creativity and brainpower. An exceptional benefit of yoga is that profound personal growth and health and fitness benefits keep coming as you practice.

Individual Yoga

I work with you individually, at your pace, to create the yoga practice that best suits you. One of the most important benefits to this focused attention is how personalized it really can be.

Small Group Yoga

I work with you and your friends or colleagues in your home or office. Groups have a power of their own, and through a yoga practice can develop relationships, trust and communication. Having a group to share the type of growth yoga can offer is immeasurably valuable. I highly recommend it!

Yoga Classes and Workshops

I will come to your company or center to hold a class or workshop. Setting these up are simple, straightforward, and fun. These days yoga is beginning to be understood around the world as a method for improving lives in general, and specifics like productivity, focus, work relationships, personal health and more. When we take the time to be with ourselves, magic happens.
